Qualifications
To become a civil engineer, a person needs to:
Complete a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering at an accredited university. This usually takes 4 years and ends with a diploma in civil engineering.
A master’s degree in civil engineering or related fields is not mandatory but can be an advantage and give the chance to specialize. A master’s program usually lasts 2 years.
Gain the minimum professional experience required (a minimum number of years) to apply for authorization as a construction site supervisor. This experience can be earned by working in design, execution, or consultancy in civil engineering. The exact duration depends on the field and can be checked in Article 8 of the Authorization Procedure for Site Supervisors.
After gaining the experience, apply for authorization. The authorization is given by the State Inspectorate for Construction, based on an exam or directly approved by the authorization committee for applicants who are university teachers or PhD holders in engineering sciences with relevant experience.
