A BI analyst is a person who interprets different types of data to find useful information and create regular reports that help the organization make decisions. The BI analyst uses specific tools to find trends and anomalies and to improve the organization’s performance.

  • Collect and check data for accuracy and completeness

  • Create reports and interactive data visualizations that can be understood and used internally and externally

  • Automate data collection and analysis processes to increase efficiency

  • Extract insights from data to support decision-making

Analytical and organizational skills

Qualifications

A person who wants to become a BI analyst is recommended to:

  • Have a university degree (bachelor’s or master’s) in one or more relevant fields, such as:

    • Computer Science

    • Mathematics or Statistics

    • Economics or Business Administration

    • Engineering

  • Obtain recognized qualifications in digital tools for data analysis (for example, SQL, Excel, or R)

These qualifications are often required by employers, but in some cases, it is possible to enter the job without them.
