Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergencies such as fires, accidents, or natural disasters to improve the situation and protect people and property.

  • Rescue people and animals in danger in different risk situations.

  • Give first aid when needed, before medical teams arrive.

  • Take part in practice exercises, training, and ongoing preparation.

  • Carry out prevention and public education activities about risk situations and safety measures.

  • Work with a team of other firefighters and different types of professionals.

Physical skills and endurance

Qualifications

A person who wants to become a firefighter must go through the following steps:

  • Finish high school with a diploma and meet physical, medical, and psychological requirements.

  • For those who want to work in the Inspectorates for Emergency Situations: take the entrance exam in military education, organized by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In some cases, the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations may also organize recruitment through direct employment.

  • For those who want to work in a private emergency service: take part in professional training programs in centers approved by the General Inspectorate.

  • Complete formal training and start working in the position.
