A high school teacher is a qualified professional responsible for the educational development of children in high school education (grades 9 - 12). The teacher creates a positive learning environment tailored to the needs of each child and delivers lessons according to the curriculum for the high school cycle. Qualifications

A person that wishes to become a high school teacher will have to go through the following steps:

  • Obtaining a bachelor’s degree in a field related to the subject you wish to teach, as well as completing a teaching master’s program. If the bachelor’s program is in Educational Sciences, completing the psycho-pedagogical training module is not required. Similarly, for a one-and-a-half year teaching master’s program, the module is not required. For any other bachelor’s program or a one-year-teaching master’s program, completing Level II of the psycho-pedagogical training module is mandatory. During the bachelor’s and/ or master’s studies, you will also undertake a teaching practice program, to interact directly with students and acquire the required skills in a practical setting.

  • Participate in the national teaching licensure exam (which includes portfolio evaluation and a written test) and obtaining the teaching license certificate.
