Qualifications
To become a doctor in Romania, one must:
Complete a 6-year medical degree at an accredited medical, dental, or pharmacy faculty.
Pass the national residency entrance exam and select a specialty according to the official specialty list. Based on exam results, chosen specialty, university center, and available positions, the graduate is assigned to a healthcare institution.
Complete residency as a resident doctor, lasting 3–7 years depending on the specialty. Without residency, a medical graduate cannot work clinically, practice a medical specialty, or make diagnoses. Simultaneous completion of multiple residencies is not allowed.
Pass the specialist exam at the end of residency to become a certified specialist in the chosen field.
Register with the Romanian College of Physicians (CMR) and obtain the annual practice license, taking the Hippocratic Oath upon registration.
